Tours Japan is operated by long term residents of Japan, and features guides that know the country and have lived in Japan for years. They are all passionate about their adopted country and delight in introducing Japan, its people, culture and history to visitors so that they get the most from their visits. Bilingual, knowledgeable and friendly, we want give you some perspective and background on the sights and sounds of Japan.

Patrick Lovell, Tour Designer

Patrick mug shot crop.jpgPatrick’s interest in Japan began in high school working in a Japanese-American owned florist shop. His boss would tell stories of his life in Japan, and these stories had a life changing impact on him. Patrick went on to earn baccalaureate degrees in Secondary Education and Japanese History from Western Washington State University.

He first came to Japan in the early 70’s as a home stay/study abroad student. Today he combines his teaching skills and love of Japanese history and culture to develop and deliver tours that provide insights that penetrate the veneer of Japan. When not on tour himself, Patrick is working hard to design meaningful, insightful tours that take the tourist's interests and knowledge into consideration, creating vivid, memorable experiences that excite and entertain.

After hours, Patrick enjoys quiet evenings at home. He is a certified practitioner of the Sogetsu style of Ikebana – flower arrangement -- and is a student of the Hanayagi style of Nihon Buyo -- traditional Japanese dance that has its origins in Kabuki. His stage appearances have been featured on Japanese TV and in newspapers.

Barbara Manning, Business Manager

That's Me!1 (2015_11_06 17_56_47 UTC).bmpBarbara is a 15-year veteran of living in Tokyo. Originally a Chicago native, she arrived in Japan courtesy of the ad agency for which she worked, where she managed the direct marketing projects for several clients and worked with senior executives in a variety of fast-moving consumer goods companies. She did well enough to be invited to Japan to do the same for the clients here. Since that time, she has held department manager positions in the insurance, banking and advertising industries in Japan. Her expertise is in developing and implementing direct marketing strategies, objectives and tactics -- including database building, management and maintenance, and creating the infrastructure necessary to support such actions.

Barbara met Patrick when they worked together as volunteers for the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. It was there that they began to build a relationship that culminates now in a partnership in the tour industry. Although you won't find Barbara out on tour, she is the one who's responsible for creating, organizing and managing the business office, developing marketing emails, and maintaining communications of all kinds with clients and vendors. Barbara also arranges short term events for visitors and foreign residents alike.
